Hi there my dear movie specialists.
I know this isn't a Canadian film, but I thought you might have seen it and I would like to hear your opinion.
So... did you like it? Do you agree with the people in the jury who think that this is the best film of the year? Cause I don't.
Yes, it's impressive due to the social problems it raises. Yes, it's got some shocking images. And, of course, it's a love story with a happy ending. But... what else?
Hmmm. It's an interesting idea to present someone's life starting from the questions in a quiz show, but they could have done a much better job.
It is not a great film, that's for sure. Say 'Yes, Ioana. You're right.' :D _________________ Be the change you want to see in the world! |

I didn't like the happy ending. That was so...Hollywood.
This is seen as the best movie of the year? Well, that might be possible. I haven't seen the other recent movies. Now, I won't even watch them, if this is considered the best one. That means that the others must really suck.
There were some good things in this movie, though: the depiction of poverty, the struggle for survival, the family relations, morality vs. immorality, and destiny governing all. |

Well, I have "Slumdog Millionaire" but have not bothered to watch it yet, after having glimpsed through it for a couple of minutes.
I am busy discovering cult film directors,
--- one is Terrence Malick, whose "Days of Heaven" has some stunning cinematography and unusual editing---
--- or David Arronofsky, with his fast-moving, subliminal editing in "Requiem for a Dream"---
--- the 2 or 3 minor wotrks by the German Tom Tykwer that I have yet to watch...
revisiting old loves
--- "Tess" by Roman Polansky with the unique Nasstasja Kinski
--- "The Fisher King" (to re-watch, not sure if it still makes sense)
and completing my vision of some of the great classics
--- Michelangelo Antonioni's iconic films of the 70s, La Notte, Deserto Rosso (whose script I read while in high school and I kno almost by heart)...
--- "La Double Vie De Veronique" by the great Polish moralist Krzysztof Kieslowski
--- Luc Besson's "Angel-A"
and wide ning my horizons towards other regions of the world
--- after Vietnam, Japan, Iran, I am discovering some South Korean films. Next on my list is "Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul guerigo bom", or (In case you could not follow this ) "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... and Spring" -- very Zen... |
